Sometimes The Night Turns To Gold

i watched the crucifix hanging silently high on my room wall. or in any part of people’s houses, buildings, t-shirt, body ornaments, books, even underground clubs. for me, i saw in not as a religious ornaments, but as an object men trying to get involved with. how they adore this stuff as much as signs, sculptures or any other representative that means much for them. despite i’m a christian, doesn’t mean i HAVE to put on those thing inside my room. this crusufix has been in this house from my grandma was a baby i guess. it’s made of metal -heavy as hell- but it’s nice. some of its part is stained by time. but my question is why do people like to have them… is it because of faith? a representative of what they believe in? or just something to prove to the society? an identity or a mark for they long life journey…? for myself, i love it as an art object. mostly in my drawing, i always put a sentimental cross or something that looks like a cross. another thing i love to make was human with huge wings on their back or some may reffer thBelieveem with angels. i’m so fanatic about angels. but i dunno, just a likeness i guess, i always drew them in pain. some of them with their head tied, or body trapped in wires. sound nuts? u bet. or their wings stabbed with a cross. nothing were intented for any means, my hands have their own soul ya know…but these two object were something i adore most, crosses & angels. i believe it’s just a reason of time that now they were the closest representative of a particular religion. all the people in the world could believe in them, if they want to. for me christian signs are pieces of mysteries. with their gigantic buildings, or huge sculptures. something always amaze me that everytime i want to put them in my drawings. i learn both world, good and evil. i don’t curse to other who believes the opposite way of what we’re trying to have faith in. they have their own reason too. in my poems, sometimes i mention the risen of the dark age. maybe that’s what makes me have no friends in my early years. i don’t think that it would be fair to see someone’s life from one side of the coin. our eyes won’t fit their landscape. see everything from ur deepest mind. just like yin and yang. the light only works when we showed them in the dark. i always try to understand what’s going on with my soul, touched them with the inner me. i can’t do it by judging them for the sake of my community. when someone are trapped in a paradigm it will stigmatize their point of view. oh well, who gives a damn of what i say anyway…i’d better got to bed now. almost morning. got tons of work to do tomorrow. g’nite world!

i still think its a form of idolatry, to have those things and think of it as divine,,, God doesnt want any graven image because it misleads us in our faith, like an event in the philippines where an image of jesus (they say) appeared on a wall, the people end up praying in front of that wall. God wants us to pray to him directly not through any graven image or form, doing so is really senseless..

Materialism, religion, technology, or humanity cannot build upon or strengthen the ultimate dignity or sanctity of our lives. Moreover, wealth, status, power, knowledge, literacy, ability, intelligence or talent does not increase the innate respectability of our lives. This innate respectability has an independent intrinsic value :)

When you’re with God, you don’t need anything. All He is, becomes you.

right…@mArk.. i remember a story in the bible where there were people who worshiped the false gods and those animals made of gold… and God was so mad at them…

very well done except for the font color. Next time, make it formal by using a single color. Better use black so that it can be easily read. Well, I just select the fonts and it turned to color blue. hehe. PEACE!

I am getting fond of your blog.

It seems that we had the same standpoint regarding the faith (Christianity in particular).

    * The faith, Christianity in particular, is far beyond those symbols
    * There would be 2 sides of every story (e.g dark age/pagan vs Christian history). Then, which one do you believe is up to you. It’s all about your-own exploration.

    rite?

Sleep tight. Jakarta sudah malam. GBU.. :)

Images are signs that point to a reality or realities. They are not meant to be worshipped but to aid us in transcending into the beyond. Your blog points towards that direction which I also subscribe. The more we transcend the more we enter into the beyond which we call “divine” which sums up our sighs, hopes, aspirations, dreams and vision.

  24. 24    ARRY June 5, 2006 at 10:27 am

Why do you always draw an image of angels? No one knows how they look. The image have been there for centuries and I not sure whether angels really look like that or not. Sometimes I see things in my deep sleep which only a bright light and i always feel the closeness of god is there in that light. For the cross I think just because Christ carried it, it become a symbol to mankind other then that it just a cross sign or a small letter T.Take care.

  25. 25    Carlo Ang June 5, 2006 at 11:10 am

crosses and sngels… both so mystic, and i wouldn’t blame anyone if they can have some sort of “relationship” with them… but a bleeding or wounded angel can be so symbolic… to me, it means that “even good people get hurt” or “no good deed goes unpunished” or something of the sort… =)

  29. 29    Olive June 6, 2006 at 12:15 am

I wear a crucifix necklace for two reasons:
    1. it reminds me everyday that my soul has been paid in full (for what it’s worth, I’m a believer)
    2. it looks good on me ^^;

For me, crucifix matters for the message it bears… it was, after all, a mean of torture back then in Jesus’ time, NOT a very amusing image, it wasn’t!
whatever it is making people actually praying TO the image (whatever image) and not TO God alone, would be idolatry

I think people should just believe what they believe… Live up to your own standard and don’t implement it upon someone else’s life… It just won’t fit there…

There’s nothing but God, but sometimes.. we do need some images or signs, just to help usto visualize God,crusifix to remind us of Jesus’s sacrifies, but it’s nothing when u don’t have any faith

well it’s the nature of human to attribute their faith to something tangible to cling to, just like the idea of body and soul, some recognize and accept the concept of soul because they have the body as to bridge it, sort of mediator, soul is an abstract idea, so as are other that cannot be seen by the naked eyes thus as part of human nature they need something to back up their faith and no one can contest whether it’s ideal or not because faith is relative and different people have different ways to manifest and enable themselves to hold on to it… faith as to hope… some desperate people continue living because whether they admit it or not there is hope, if they decided everything is over and choose death all is gone…

well, every one has its own freedom to believe what he want tn be. and is not your responsibility to take it or accert ot also if you don’t right…so be what you are coz in our worl nothing is real….its up to a person as an individual what real is….

  38. 38    naDine June 6, 2006 at 11:08 pm

i like what you said… religion isn’t about proving something… it’s about how deep and strong is your faith… in my opinion… symbols doesn’t mean anything without reasonable belief… why do we even have to go to the church when god is in our hearts? why do we have to visit him there if we have our family and faith kept at home where we live in… i have read angels and demons by dan brown… it said that goodness can never be understood without feeling evil… most of us now wouldn’t go to him if we’re having a good time… we only seek him if we have problems, frankly, i’m one of them… i can’t really understand myself… i don’t know if man just made up this magnificent story to enlighten our soul and to have someone to go to spiritually… maybe we just have to go through many things to answer our questions… althought most of the time, going on only means having more questions

People have their own opinion with whatever they want to say/Some my think its just a idol or something but for some its much more than that because of their beliefs or what they thought it might represent. So its okey.At least you’ve express what you think it is for you somehow we could get an idea to broaden our minds.

hello. I agree with you. Crucifix and statues and religious architectural designs aremere representation of ones faith which, in the end do not detemine ones salvation. I hold a secret. One of the world’s biggest. I will tell you. email me at z_albano@yahoo.com. hear from you soon!

  43. 43    Insan June 7, 2006 at 5:13 am

Humm, your blog just comes straight into my mind! Crucifixes simply remind you of what Jesus endured to save the humanity. People don’t actually pray to the crucifix, they actually communicate to God (at least that’s what I think of). Cheers, selamat tidur!

  44. 44    FloRa June 7, 2006 at 7:46 am

i dun know who u are..but hey..i love ur blog..we’re talking on the same wavelength here..u’r one of those ppl who really explore the real meaning of life..and pleezzz write more:)………..
for me crucifix is just a rememberance of Jesus and his GREAT sacrifices…..in Catholic Church it’s considered as a scared thing..and i respects that..
but i guess u have to stand firm in wat u believe..

  45. 45    'Hafizan' June 7, 2006 at 2:46 pm

well, whatever religion we are.if we dont have faith in it, it is meaningless.make is islam, christian, buddha n watever…wear ur crucifix, buddha necklace but if you dont believe in it, its nothing more than a symbol of art…just like wearing ur shirt.haha..btw, i like to read ur blog :)

  46. 46    Annie June 7, 2006 at 5:52 pm

what about, if they use it as a reminder …. that they have to live in God’s path as good as they can do..Even in life, we need watch as reminder ….and I guess it just work the same way

I happened to read your blog and i found it interesting! I’m a christian too and to me cross and all the stuff is just as a reminder that the one true God really create and rule the world (Father), He really came down here (Son) and ’till now and forth He’ll still be with me (Holy Spirit). Sounds silly? I don’t care! Oh, jaz wanna add that to me there’s no such thing as dark, it exists because of the absence of light, just like evil exist because of the absence of good. Bless you!

for me, the most important is what is inside the heart. and religion, for me it’s more like…. experience between a personal to The Supreme God. Religion teachings are maps or guides how to find God, but i think you must search God by yourselves. :)

  54. 54    Nico Pao-Paw June 8, 2006 at 8:44 pm

Hey! you got a very nice blog! I’m a christian too. I would like to help in things like that. In the past, I do like crosses and angels but not that brutally. Maybe I want to be saved by making a drawing out of it. But it came out to the point someone showed me that it’s not the way to be saved. Good works can’t saved us. I want to be sure that I proceed in heaven after I die. I thought if I didn’t like in Heaven nor Hell I’ll just a lost spirit on this world. But its not going to happen. When we die we must face eternity right? Either Heaven or Hell. Now I found the ONLY WAY. I’m very sure that I’m going to Heaven with this thing I’m trying to hold on to. The ONLY WAY is Jesus Christ. Accepting and Believing in him is the only way. The One who had died on the CROSS to save those who believed in Him. There are things where God placed the word “MYSTERIOUS”. He has the answer that none in this world ever had. The intelligence of Einstein is just a small drop compared to the Wisdom of God. I tell you, read the Bible, it has UNLIMITED TEXTS better than any Hi-Tech Cellphones. God bless you and your family. You can add me angeling025@yahoo.com if you have more questions besides, I want you to be my friend and of couse, brother.

I like the honesty of what you wrote. Crucifix is something that other people hold on to, as their way of communicating with our God. I’m one of them. I hope, you will get your answers soon. It’s really good that you are able to write what’s confusing in your mind. I get confuse to. But, I always have hope. Faith is believing into something you couldn’t see, or sometimes can’t understand. If you will accept that slowly, then maybe, you will have your own answers.

  73. 73    'Janet' June 11, 2006 at 10:17 am

you should truly understand ur religion first, u know. Then you can put your complete faith in it. I must say christianity really has a complex history, and ur religion has evolved, altered through time….Why are there so many religions? Christianity, Islam, Buddhism etc… Who knows, maybe the one u have faith in wasn’t a real god…. One of these religions has got to be wrong.

Thank u for ur reply Janet. I don’t happen to be a christian but I read the bible sometimes, I grew up in a mixed religous surrounding and I think it’s very interesting how different religious books actually have some things in common, it seems like they are made to complete each other……About the symbols….what do u think about the French government who wouldn’t allow people to show their religious symbols?

Im a person who has a deep belief of the things written in the Bible. I’d like to give my opinion on the things you’ve written above.

I believe Christ has been crucified but I strongly disagree that we should kneel down in front of ANY cross.

John 4:23 - But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

He who had been crucified (Christ) did not command kneeling to a cross, so people ought to stop those stupid acts.

Let’s say, I agree partially to your article! (Winks!!!)

A blessed crucifix is a scourge of the devil and his minions. He hates it. In every Roman Catholic exorcism it is one of the required objects. What the devils hate, we love. It is not idolatry because we do not believe in the wood of the cross being powerful in itself. But it is powerful because it is a representation of the the living God- and S.A.TAN hates to be reminded of God. The crucifix is a reminder- of Our Lord’s triumph, and the devil’s fall. That is why it is powerful. It’s use must be respectful- otherwise, it becomes a sacrilege- a crime you would have to be answerable for at Judgeent Day.

Aside from that, angels (good angels) are powerful creatures, worthy of our respect. They are perfect beings- because they passed the test that Lucifer failed. They cannot be hurt as they have no corporeal bodies. If you tried to respresent good angels as being tied down, or trapped in wires, it is disrespectful to them and hurts them- because they exist to help YOU. You have one beside you. Everytime you have a close call- thank your angel. Everytime you feel a nudge in your conscience to do good or repair a wrong- thank your angel.

Speaking as one catholic to another, I hope that you will study your faith deeper, and come to love it as I have. Once you come to know it, it WILL offer you comfort.

Go here (http://fisheaters.com/) to read up on Catholicism. Give it a try. You will find that there are many things you did not know before about your faith.

symbols like the crucifix are simply that - symbols. It’s purpose is only to remind us that Jesus did die on the cross for all those who follow Him. Many Christians/Catholics seem to take this to another level though. They kneel and pray, sometimes even worship the crucifix itself or other statues/figurines such as the Virgin Mary and other “saints” . Despite what many humans seem to think and do, there is only one ultimate God, it is only a matter of whether you can accept this truth. Prayers should direct only to Him, not meaningless inanimate “religious” objects. I guess our natural human instincts find it difficult to believe in something to be true without being able to touch it or see it. Thats why we need something tangible like statues or crucifixes to make it seem more “real”.

    nice blog! =)

  111. 111    Joyce June 15, 2006 at 8:28 pm

No good catholic worships the wood or metal of a cross. THAT is idolatry. If the crucifix means nothing, and is not powerful- explain the devil’s revulsion to it.

  112. 112    Jessie June 16, 2006 at 9:22 am

…ur story is artistically assembled. Impressive. U hav an awesome mind. Knowing who you believed will give you the right understanding about it. Good is not what you do. It is you, being you. Jesus is the only one who can give you the right understanding.God is uncomparable and our mind is limited to depict Him. The truth is … He will not be glorified by making images. Men are only hurting him. A good painter will not show his work until he make it perfect. God is beyond reach by man’s imagination. Just simply accept that men can not paint Him. The Images & other creation of man can not represent Him as God. It is limitation. God is unlimited.

Im proud to tell u guys that im muslim…. n I Beleive of my god… Although we muslim got nothing like sculptures or anything like that but we believe “his” there, somewhere, see us.. hear us…. IT ALL ABOUT BELIEVE IT…

  116. 116    Nadiah June 17, 2006 at 3:13 am

I don’t know who you are, but I like what you said. I think people relate too much object or symbols because they might feel somehow afraid, or unfit, to pray directly to God. Which is what religion is all about. You and God. As a Muslim, I’m against idolatry. But if any person just uses their logic a bit, what on earth could be so special about a statue, or a piece of metal in a specific shape? Power belongs to God, not objects. I’m glad I got a chance to read this blog, whoever you are.

  119. 119    akou June 17, 2006 at 4:02 am

Lovely day for lovely blog. agree with angela its a nice story but crucifix never ask u to comment the simbol. My opinion is that crucifix is not ask the laity to worship that simbol but the crucifix hang on the wall or everywhere juz to remind the faithfull/believers that in every corner of their life they still have God in their ups n down. as i carry a cross in my pocket to… it not a simbol of my worshiping to the simbol but it always reminds me always to use the right path. every time im doing any wrongs thing the cross i carry will remind me that we have to use our mind body n soul direct to the right path. i use to think twice whenever i want to do something wrong or i have a bad motive. if bad thinking came across my mind i still think that i still have to meet God after end of my life. in short form…everything i do..the crucifix is there to reminds me that im the one who have to keep my faith before i meet God. at least i can less my wongdoing or thinking. this world is not belongs to us so use it perfectly. crucifix is not a worship thing. anyway thanx 4 ur nice blog. great job.

  124. 124    akou June 17, 2006 at 8:11 am

I dont mean dat by carry a cross or use or hang anything something with crucifix is for protection…or ask protection by God. its doesnt means a symbol for protection charm…no…it jus like our reminder that in everything we do we r always reminded automatically everytime we saw the cross. just like a clock/ always remind us about time. that is the point. no use for ask God blessing or protection No. Sorry to hear that.

  128. 128    Waqas June 17, 2006 at 6:09 pm

Whatever it represents, it just a symbol for me. The only things I dont like is the way people make crucifix as a sacred & powerful things to fight demons.. that is crap for me.

  141. 141    jUliE June 19, 2006 at 9:47 pm

actually, why do you have to complicate matters by asking why’s and what’s?!
the bible, especially in the book of John, in the new testament, advises humans to live a simple life….
what you are today is simply who you are today, learn to live by it and improve it but not complicate it by silly questions…
theres just something i wanna point out…THOU SHALL NOT MAKE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE OF WHATEVER IT IS THAT THERE IS ON EARTH OR IN HEAVEN ABOVE (INCLUDING ANGELS, SAINTS AND THE CROSS) AND THOU SHALL NOT BOW THY HEADS UNTO THEM….that is clearly stated in the bible, its even one of the 10 commandments of God…
if we read over the book of exodus (it is the story of the israelites exodus from egypt to the promised land), specifically in Exodus 19, the whole chapter, it reiterated about the law of God which is not to bow down on other gods besides THE LORD GOD….

so obviously im not a catholic, BUT i dont condemn catholicism or any other religions, for I know we are brethrens in CHrist…
however, how can we say we are true servants of God if this simple Law we can not follow?!!!…
    think…

and regarding your post again, i think you have a bothered spirit,so i just advise you to read the bible and meditate on its message every night and day, try to learn more and deeper things on the word of God, live a real and true and with no hypocrisy, simple and humble life…GOD BLESS…GOD LOVES YOU…! =)
